An appeal from Fayyad to international institutions!

The media office of the Ministry of Energy and Water issued a statement saying, “With the launch of the water conference on its first day, Minister of Energy and Water Walid Fayyad participated in the interactive dialogue entitled: “Water for health, access to water, sanitation and hygiene services.”

Key speakers in this interactive dialogue are High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi and UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell.

Minister Fayyad had a speech that focused on the situation of the water and health sector in Lebanon and the challenges it faces. Fayyad welcomed the international assistance provided to this sector.

He pointed out that, “The scarcity in the volume of aid, which is not in line with the volume of national concerns and needs, especially in light of the Syrian displacement crisis, which represents more than 30% of the Lebanese population, which imposes heavy burdens on the infrastructure, sanitation and water services, which would also It negatively affects the health situation with the outbreak of epidemics recently, the latest of which was cholera.

From the rostrum, Fayyad launched an appeal to international institutions and donor countries to increase their support in line with the updated strategy for the water and sanitation sector, and to reactivate funding for projects that have been suspended since 2019, including the Bisri Dam, treatment plants, and sewage networks.
