Notice exposing the lives of ‘guest workers’ in Delhi
Spoiler Alert
Divya Prabha and Kunchacko Boban in the lead roles were announced on December 16 on Netflix. The film revolves around Harish-Rashmi, a couple living in Delhi. Both work in two departments of a glove factory in Delhi. Their life in Delhi is part of an attempt to migrate abroad. Their lives change following a sex tape is leaked.
Both of them are living in very cramped conditions in Delhi. It is doubtful whether there have been any Malayalam films that have marked the lives of the Malayalees living in the lower reaches of Delhi like this before. Many movies have shown Malayalis living in limited conditions in the Gulf.
But the Delhi Malayalees in the announcement were a novelty. It is shown very realistically in this film. Although the realistic approach is not uncommon in Malayalam cinema, the announcement has gone to its extreme.
Harish and Rashmi live on rent in a house that does not have many facilities. Inside the house there is limited space including one room, bathroom and kitchen. Harish mostly sleeps in the hall outside the room.
Harish and Rashmi’s stay in Delhi is reminiscent of migrant workers coming to Kerala. The film depicts that there are Malayalam ‘guest workers’ not only in Kerala but also in North India. The notice provides a helpless view of the underprivileged human being in a system riddled with their living conditions.
Beyond the main plot, the leaked video, the announcement reveals several layers. Rashmi and Harish’s relationship also cracks as they try to find the real culprits behind the video. During the struggle to prove that she is not in that video, something else also appears in front of Rashmi. Notification progresses through subsequent discoveries and realizations.
