The medical coordinator of the Cristo Rey Clinic in Cali, Alexis Fernando Contreras Castro, was murdered this Thursday in the La Hacienda neighborhood, south of Cali, in the parking lot of a soccer sports center.
According to preliminary versions, Contreras worked as chief anesthesiologist at the San Juan de Dios Hospital.
The person responsible for the murder, who was traveling on foot, had apparently been waiting for a long time for the doctor in the parking lot of the sports center, according to the authorities.
After receiving two bullet wounds, the health professional was taken to a health center in the city where he died due to the seriousness of his injuries.
“At approximately 9:00 p.m. in the Hacienda neighborhood, south of Cali, a hit-and-run event takes place in a sports center, where the doctor is approached inside the complex by a subject who was moving on foot, the which shot him twice at chest height. Due to the seriousness of the injuries, he was transferred to a health center, where he later died,” said Colonel William Quintero Salazar, deputy commander of the Cali Police.

According to the deputy commander of the Police, the person responsible for the crime has already been fully identified, thanks to the cameras at the place where the events took place.
“Immediately, intelligence units and judicial police were sent, which collected important material on the spot. Through the cameras of the site, this person was fully identified, who at this time we are working with the Prosecutor’s Office in order to locate and capture this criminal,” added Colonel Quintero Salazar.
According to what is known by the Police, the doctor frequented this sports site almost every week, along with his colleagues.
At the moment, the authorities still have no information on the causes of the murder, and according to the victim’s family, the doctor had no threat once morest him.
