An American elected official “shocked” by the treaty on the transfer of prisoners between Belgium and Iran: “The Belgian government has reached an agreement with the world leader of terrorism”

“I am shocked to learn that the Belgian government has reached an agreement with the world leader in government-funded terrorism,” Randy Weber, from Texas, said in a video message, posted on Twitter. The existence of this treaty was revealed on Friday.

It concerns not only Iran but also India and the United Arab Emirates. The government has submitted a bill to the Chamber which will be discussed next week in the Foreign Relations Committee.

Randy Weber, a US congressman, fears the deal with Tehran might see the transfer and eventual release of Assadollah Assadi, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Antwerp last year for his role in a foiled attack in Paris targeting the Iranian opposition. Belgium intends to “send Iranian terrorists back to Iran to plan other terrorist acts,” Weber said. In Belgium, the opposition party N-VA wonders if Assadi might be exchanged for the Iranian-Swedish professor of the VUB Ahmadreza Djalali.

If the Chamber approves this assent bill, “Belgium will become a refuge for the terrorism of the mullahs”, suggests Mr. Weber. “It’s not just wrong, it’s immoral and it will make Europe and Americans even more vulnerable to terrorism from the Iranian regime.”

The Texan therefore called on the Belgian parliament not to adopt the law. “You don’t put a snake that tried to kill you back in its nest,” he illustrates.

A dozen opponents of the Iranian regime demonstrated Friday near the Federal Parliament once morest this bill. They also fear that this treaty will allow the release of Assadolah Assadi, once his transfer to Iran has taken place.
