an alternative solution to soaring energy prices, but not just anyhow

“Wood fuel, whether logs or pellets, is about six cents per kilowatt hour, so it’s half the price of gas. On that side, it’s pretty unbeatable”, specifies the climate energy adviser at EcoConso, Jonas Moerman. But the price is not the only advantage of wood. In a context of climate emergency, it is a way to do without fossil fuels. “So it’s a renewable energy source. And from the moment it comes from forests managed correctly, sustainably, so with FSC or PEFC labels, we can say that it’s more or less neutral in relation to the climate.“, adds the climate energy adviser.

Jonas Moerman pursuit: “We still need transport and machines to cut the wood and transform it. So it still requires fossil fuels, but it’s true that the CO2 that will be released during combustion is CO2 that will have been fixed by the tree for its growth, and on that side, we can say that there is carbon neutrality.” It is, however, about thinking globally and managing the forest in a sustainable way.
