Major companies joined the Linux Foundation and its JDF division last week to create an alliance. It intends to support Universal Scene Description and promote open standards for 3D content. Here’s what you need to know.
The Joint Development Foundation (JDF), affiliated with the Linux Foundation, announces the creation of theAlliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD) to promote the standardization, development, evolution and growth of Pixar’s Universal Scene Description technology. We find there (necessarily) Pixar, but also Autodesk, Adobe, NVIDIA and (even more surprisingly), Apple.
Created by Pixar Animation Studios, OpenUSD is a 3D scene description technology that already offers good interoperability between tools, data and workflows. She is known for her ability to collaboratively capture artistic expression and streamline cinematic content production.
The Alliance formed in early August intends to standardize the 3D ecosystem by advancing the capabilities of theOpen Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD) by promoting greater interoperability of 3D tools and data.
AOUSD will also be the primary forum for the collaborative definition of technology enhancements across the industry. The Alliance invites a wide range of companies and organizations to join and participate in shaping the future of OpenUSD.
