ALGIERS – Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Lakhdar Rakhroukh and Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, expressed, Thursday in Algiers, their desire to realize joint projects in the public works sector , notably the construction of railway lines.
This desire was expressed during the Algerian-Turkish Economic Forum in the public works sector, chaired by MM Rakhroukh and Uraloglu, in the presence of the Turkish Deputy Minister and the Turkish Ambassador to Algeria, as well as the presidents and general directors of several Algerian and Turkish economic groups and companies, active in the field of public works and infrastructure.
In a speech on the occasion, the minister indicated that this forum followed the Istanbul meeting which was held last July, on the sidelines of the official visit of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in Turkey, during which the Turkish minister expressed his “attachment to strengthening and promoting ties of partnership and cooperation in the field of public works and basic infrastructure.”
Mr. Rakhroukh also underlined that this forum was part of the “instructions of the leaders of the two countries and their personal commitment to the promotion of bilateral cooperation and partnership and to increasing the volume of investments between the two countries, taking advantage of the attractive climate for investment in both countries.
He also highlighted the desire of economic operators from both countries to build solid economic relations by exploiting the opportunities available for the realization of projects of common interest.
He indicated that the forum “will open the way to new opportunities for businessmen and companies of the two countries to examine the possibility of implementing projects within the framework of joint partnerships”, which would allow the access to international markets.
In this regard, the minister called on Turkish businessmen and companies to develop their activities and further exploit the “diverse and important” investment opportunities, and to contribute to the realization of joint projects in the field of infrastructure basic, thanks to the substantial advantages and incentives granted by Algeria to foreign investors.
Mr. Rakhroukh also recalled the investments made by Algeria in recent years in the sector of public works and basic infrastructure, particularly for railway installations aimed at expanding the national railway network which will connect the different regions of the country (south and north) and extend to some neighboring African countries.
He affirmed that Algeria was progressing steadily towards the development of the railway sector by strengthening and modernizing the network, thanks to the implementation of a national plan aimed at reaching 6,000 km of railway tracks in the short term, to reach 15,000 km in the medium term.
Mr. Rakhroukh recalled the realization of several “important programs” in terms of roads and highways, in addition to the development of port and airport infrastructure, through the implementation of projects contributing to the development of the national economy.
To this end, the minister expressed the wish to see Turkish companies operating in the field of basic infrastructure participate in the realization of these investment projects, particularly in terms of railways, given the great importance given by the President of the Republic to the development of the railway network, as part of the overall strategy for developing the mining sector and promoting non-hydrocarbon exports.

For his part, the Turkish minister returned to the work in progress to further develop Algerian-Turkish relations, in particular through the relaunch of joint projects in various areas.
Mr. Uraloglu cited, in this sense, the investments made by several Turkish companies in Algeria, particularly in the construction and industry sectors, stressing the importance of seizing the investment opportunities offered in railway projects. in Algeria.
He also highlighted the importance of Algeria’s strategic position, as well as its energy resources and its mineral wealth, stressing that “Turkey tends to launch joint investment projects in Algeria.”
The Turkish official also expressed confidence in the success of Turkish investment projects in Algeria and the development of Algerian-Turkish relations following this forum, arguing that Algeria and Turkey have the means to be at the top, due to their geographical position in the Mediterranean.
The forum was an opportunity for business meetings to be held between Turkish business leaders and the general directors of Algerian public companies, such as the Cosider group, the National Enterprise of Large Works of Art (ENGOA). ), the National Public Works Materials Company (ENMTP), the Eastern Engineering Works Study and Construction Company (SERO-EST), the Infrastructure Study and Control Group and assistance “GEICA”, the maritime public works infrastructure group (GITRAMA), the road works and engineering structures infrastructure group (Gitra), the National Agency for studies and monitoring of the implementation of railway investments (Anesrif) and the Algerian highways (ADA).
Mr. Rakhroukh received, Thursday at the ministry’s headquarters, the Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, with whom he examined ways to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the field of port infrastructure and facilities, and contribute to the success of Turkish participation in the SITP.
