A man was knocked down Wednesday evening in Seraing (province of Liège) by a driver who had consumed alcohol, indicates the parquet floor of Liège. The victim’s life is in danger.
A man was hit Wednesday around 11:40 p.m. by a car as he crossed a pedestrian crossing located rue de Cockerill in Seraing. The driver then fled and did not stop. According to the first elements collected, the vehicle was traveling at high speed and the victim was thrown regarding twenty meters. Seriously injured, the 60-year-old man was taken to hospital. Friday morning, the Liège prosecutor’s office claimed that the victim’s days were still in danger. She has head trauma and multiple fractures. The pedestrian had to undergo neurosurgery. The driver was arrested on Wednesday evening, five minutes following the incident, by a police patrol in the Seraing-Neupré area.
The car’s windshield was badly damaged and the driver was nervous when he was arrested. The driver had a passenger. He tested positive for alcohol and tests have yet to determine whether he had possibly consumed narcotics. At the time of the accident, the vehicle was in default of insurance, technical control and registration.
The driver had lost his driving license and might not drive. The man who knocked down the pedestrian is already well known to the courts for a dozen driving incidents. He was brought to the Liège public prosecutor’s office on Friday morning and a request for an arrest warrant was issued once morest him.
