One person was arrested for contempt this Saturday around 4:30 p.m. following being involved in an accident in the neighborhood of Carrasco, Montevideo, and rebuke two police officers who arrived at the scene. In social networks Two videos went viral where it is seen when a policeman detains the person while some neighbors rebuke him for the way he does it.
According to the Uruguayan Ministry of the Interior, the incident began when a 38-year-old man was riding a motorcycle to the west along Alberdi street. Arriving at the corner of Cooper Street lost control and fell. Shortly following, while he was being treated for a medical emergency that arrived at the scene, a police car also arrived.
The man, according to the Ministry, was diagnosed with “mild trauma” and was “discharged from the scene presenting alcoholic breath.” Given this situation, the police officers requested the presence of Traffic personnel from the Police Headquarters and told him that he should undergo a spirometry check.
The person refused to submit to the control for which he was fined and the test was classified as positive. They also verified that the motorcycle did not have a license plate and the person did not have a driver’s license.
From the Ministry they expressed that the Misdemeanor Court determined that the motorcycle be seized and that he be summoned to testify. After informing him of this situation, the 38-year-old man began to rebuke and insult the police officers and for that he was arrested for contempt.
In a video published by the journalist Miguel Chagas, it can be seen how the man says “come, come” to the policemen, while a policeman responds: “If you want to fight me, fight me as I am, I’m not going to take anything off, it’s my uniform.”
At another point the man expresses: “Do you think I’m an idiot? Come on, come on” to which the policeman replies: “calm down because I’m taking you from the lining of the c…, on top of that I’m going to take you to prison for being drunk, I’m going to take you to prison for pretending to be alive”.
After another response from the man, the policeman throws him to the ground and arrests him. In another video published by the journalist Diego Martini, it can be seen how one person complains to the officers: “Violence in the Police does not have to be there, they can do the whole procedure without hitting him”, while another adds: “That’s police abuse”. The detainee testified and was later released.
