Coco, a two-year-old Labrador who became an alcoholic sipping the bottoms of bottles left behind by his owner, managed to get rid of his ugly addiction.
The dog underwent withdrawal treatments at Woodside Animal Rescue, in Plympton, Devon, in the south of England.
Coco was luckier than her companion treated for the same problems who died during her stay.
Animal rescue center staff said both dogs needed immediate care due to the severe signs of withdrawal they were showing.
After four weeks of sedation to keep him out of pain, Coco finally pulled through.
The veterinarians said they were seeing such cases “for the first time”.
According to the center, Coco is not yet ready for adoption; despite his recovery, he is still “very anxious” from time to time.
The Labrador was cared for in a “warm environment” of a special unit, away from other kennels.
