Ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday at the end of this month, an additional 10,000 workers will be added to prevent overwork of courier workers.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 9th that it will designate the period from the 17th of this month to the 12th of the following month as a special delivery management period. This special management period was designed to minimize damage to small business owners and consumers and prevent overwork of courier workers amid the strike of the parcel delivery union of CJ Logistics, which accounts for regarding 50% of the parcel delivery market, for more than ten days.
First of all, in consideration of the increase in supply, an additional 10,000 workers will be put in. About 3,000 people dedicated to parcel sorting, as well as 7,000 temporary workers, including terminal loading and unloading workers, delivery drivers, and trunk vehicle drivers, help on the job site. According to the ‘Social Agreement to Prevent Overwork of Delivery Drivers’ signed on June 22 last year, most delivery drivers are guaranteed at least four days of rest during the Lunar New Year holiday.
