An operation carried out jointly by the services of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the Royal Gendarmerie and customs resulted in the aborting of an attempt to traffic 2 tons and 79 kilograms of Chira at the border post of Guerguerate south of Dakhla.
The quantities of drugs seized were on board a TIR truck registered in Morocco. Said truck was vigorously inspected using trained dogs. Quantities of Chira were wrapped and hidden in food packets. The truck driver was also arrested. He is a 67-year-old man of Moroccan nationality.
A preliminary investigation has been opened by the competent local authorities under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor, in order to elucidate the circumstances of this case and identify all the people involved in the attempted trafficking. The investigation should also make it possible to determine the extent of this criminal act both in Morocco and on a regional and international scale.
It should be noted that this operation is part of the ongoing efforts made by the various security services at the Guerguerat border post and aimed at combating the international trafficking of drugs and narcotics, as well as any other form of cross-border crime.
