An 88-year-old man surnamed Liao in Taoyuan hitchhiked alone to Dongshi District, Taichung City, 130 kilometers away last Friday (3rd). He was sitting there following eating at a meatball restaurant and was suspected of getting lost. The police in the jurisdiction received a report from the store and found out that the old man had been reported lost in September last year. They confirmed that his hometown was in Dongshi and later moved to Taoyuan, and immediately contacted his grandson Liao Nan. Liao Nan rushed to the Dongshi Police Station from Taoyuan. When he saw his grandpa, he felt relieved and did not forget to reassure his elders: “You like this place so much, how regarding we sell the house in Taoyuan and move back here?” and promised to take him with him during the holidays. At regarding 5 pm on the 3rd, the Dongshi Police Station of the Dongshi Branch received a report from a Black Wheel Meatball Store in Dongshi District, saying that an old man sat in the store following eating the meatballs, without any family members accompanying him, and asked where he lived. The old man mightn’t answer either and hoped for the police’s assistance. After the police took the old man named Liao back to the police station, they found out that his hometown was in Dongshi and he had moved to Taoyuan to settle down. They quickly notified his grandson, 34-year-old Liao Nan, to come, and Liao Nan immediately came to Taichung from Taoyuan.
Liao Nan revealed that my grandpa was born in Dongshi and later moved to Taoyuan to develop and settle. In recent years, he began to suffer from dementia. He wanted to go back to his hometown in Dongshi by taking bus alone many times. Although he wore a tracker on his clothes, he was able to take the bus on his first few trips.
