An elderly man with dementia in his 80s who lived alone was found dead on the roadside of a residential area in Gangdong-gu, Seoul. The elderly man was confirmed positive in her post-mortem COVID-19 test.

According to the police and fire department on the 23rd, the Gangdong Police Station in Seoul received a report from a passerby regarding “Grandma is lying” around 2:31 a.m. that day.

Police and firefighters dispatched to the scene found a man in his 80s who was unconscious and breathing on the road in Cheonho-dong, Gangdong-gu.

Person A received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) from paramedics and was transported to a nearby hospital, but eventually died. It is reported that A had been dead before arriving at the hospital.

Person A was found to have tested positive for COVID-19 following the death. The hospital said the cause of death was believed to be a COVID-19 infection.

During this time, Mr. A was living alone, away from his family, and it is known that he suffered from dementia. Her family did not want an autopsy, so the police decided to close the case as a soldier.
