Oh, what a delightful dose of drama we have with Amy Dowden from “Strictly Come Dancing”! Just when you think it’s all sequins and stunning performances, WHAM! We’ve got a medical emergency backstage. It’s like watching a soap opera, but with more glitter and less existential dread.
So, let’s break this down. Amy, bless her heart, 34 and just returned from a two-year hiatus. That’s two years of missing out on what? The chance to trip over her own two feet in front of the nation? The poor thing collapses backstage after her dance with JB Gill, dressed as Dorothy and the Scarecrow. Just when you thought they were ‘Dancing in the Moonlight,’ Amy was more like ‘Dancing in the Dark’—indeed, she made a dramatic exit that even the Cowardly Lion would’ve envied!
Now, as luck would have it, in swoops Lauren Oakley, like a superhero in a tutu, with promises to look after JB. “Don’t worry, Amy, I’ve got this!” Honestly, if I had a pound for every time someone said that when they really didn’t, I could probably buy the BBC. But fair play to Lauren, she’s stepping in to cover while our girl recovers. It’s like a jigsaw puzzle where someone decided to replace a corner piece with a cat picture. Close enough, but not quite!
And, what’s this? A spokesperson saying Amy is “doing much better”? If I had a quid for every time a “spokesperson” said that in a medical drama, I’d own the NHS! But all jokes aside, it’s great to hear she’s on the mend. I mean, who else is going to bring the kind of charisma to the dance floor that could make a statue start boogieing?
In the highlights of her last tango, they scored a solid 32 out of 40. Just moments before the ambulance arrived! Talk about cutting it fine. That’s not just putting your heart into your performance; that’s putting your heart on a stretcher! I can picture the judges like, “It’s a 10 for the dance, but oh dear, the medical response could’ve been handled better!”
But seriously, it’s tough losing someone like Amy, especially after she’s just bounced back from such a rough patch in her life, what with her battle against cancer and all. The sheer willpower to return to the show and take on live performances deserves a standing ovation all on its own—preferably one that doesn’t end with an ambulance ride.
And here’s to the East of England Ambulance Service, arriving faster than I do at an all-you-can-eat buffet. They confirmed they were called for a “medical emergency,” which, judging by the situation, I can only assume they got there with sirens blaring like the big finale of a show… just without the confetti.
So, while the Strictly crew keeps the glitter flying high and the dance floor spinning, let’s all send our best wishes to Amy. Get well soon, because the only thing we want to hear from you next is not an ambulance siren but the sweet sound of several sequined shoes hitting the dance floor once again! Or as JB might say, “Eureka, she’s back!”
Now that’s a comeback I’d pay for, right after my guffaws from this little escapade!
Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has regrettably been replaced this week following a distressing ‘medical emergency’ that occurred after the live performance on Saturday night.
The beloved pro dancer, 34, made a heartfelt and emotional return to our screens this season after a challenging two-year absence during her battle with cancer. Unfortunately, she collapsed backstage and required immediate hospitalization.
In light of this situation, Strictly producers have officially announced that fellow professional dancer Lauren Oakley will take over as Amy’s substitute. Lauren shared a touching message offering her support and a promise to honor Amy’s legacy as she fills in.
Lauren expressed her heartfelt sentiments, saying: ‘Sending you so much love and well wishes, Amy Dowden! I hope you’re back on the dance floor as soon as possible!’ She also reassured Amy by saying, ‘I will look after JB Gill for you this week; I hope we make you proud!’
In a recent statement regarding Amy’s situation, a spokesperson for the BBC provided an encouraging update. They announced, ‘Amy Dowden MBE is doing much better, and the Strictly family sends her love and wishes her well.’ The spokesperson added, ‘She is delighted that fellow Professional Dancer Lauren Oakley is able to step in for rehearsals and to perform in Saturday’s show for JB Gill’s Couple’s Choice dance. We are all hopeful that Amy will be back to dance with JB next week.’
Just moments before her health emergency, Amy and her celebrity partner, JLS star JB Gill, showcased their Foxtrot to “Dancing In The Moonlight,” dazzling the audience in costumes inspired by Dorothy and the Scarecrow. Their performance earned them a respectable fifth place on the Strictly leaderboard with a score of 32.
Due to her unforeseen medical situation, Amy was unable to participate in the results show, but fortunately, she and JB successfully survived the vote, allowing them to continue to another week in the competition.
Amy’s representative confirmed that the ambulance was called as a proactive precautionary measure and emphasized that she is ‘feeling much better.’
Her spokesperson stated, ‘Amy was feeling unwell, and so an ambulance was called as a precaution. She is feeling much better and would like to thank the Strictly family for their love and concern. We request Amy’s privacy in matters of health be kindly respected.’
The East of England Ambulance Service has confirmed the incident, stating, ‘We were called just after 9 pm on Saturday to attend a medical emergency at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood. An ambulance was sent to the scene. One patient, an adult female, was transported to Barnet Hospital for further care.’
Amy is currently in remission after her battle with breast cancer in May 2023, which required a challenging mastectomy procedure, led to hair loss, and became complicated by life-threatening sepsis.
We all hope to see you back dancing very soon, Amy!
