AMT reorganizes in response to weak AM market

Being honest and open regarding the state of affairs is not given to every company. AMT does display this openness. The manufacturer of automated post-processing of AM pieces announces a reorganization due to weakening economic growth in general and the weak AM market in particular. The choices AMT makes also affect AM scholarships.

AMT expects sales to be between $14.5 and $17 million this year. In the last quarter, the company should turn black numbers, says Joseph Crabtree, CEO. That does not alter the fact that he feels compelled to adapt the company to the current AM market, which shows a decrease in the number of 3D printers sold. “These are challenging times for our industry and we have had to make some tough decisions.” This means, among other things, that AMT fires a number of employees. One of the hardest decisions, according to Crabtree. But the workforce needs to be streamlined with the market.

No trade fairs, but participation in partner events

Another decision in this context is to forego physical fairs from now on. Instead, AMT will support partners who organize events more. “This allows us to focus more intensively on our existing customers and streamline our efforts,” says Head of Sales Giorgio. Meanwhile, AMT wants to keep service activities up to par. That core team remains in place. In addition, it continues to focus on innovation. The first copies on the Digital Manufacturing System (DMS) were recently delivered to British customers.

Additional capital

The shareholders have supported the revised strategy and invested additional capital in AMT. This should result in a positive cash flow and ultimately profitability in the coming months.
