Amsterdam. Two French tourists stabbed in Red Light District

Two French tourists aged 22 and 27 were injured in the hands by stab wounds in the night from Sunday to Monday, in Amsterdam, in the Nederlands. The assault took place around 3 a.m., on the Oudekerksplein (old church square in French), located in the heart of the famous Red Light District, particularly famous for the windows where prostitutes show themselves. The police were called by a witness.

“Two people were injured in the hands. One of the two was treated on the spot and the other was transferred to the hospital. said the police spokesman. “The suspect fled. We have not found him once more. ». No information was given on the motive of the suspect, but the two victims intend to file a complaint, according to the spokesman.

A very touristy area

Located in the heart of the city, a stone’s throw from the central station, the area known as the Wallen (Red Light District) is one of Amsterdam’s greatest tourist attractions. If it had suffered the full brunt of the health crisis, it was particularly crowded this Easter weekend, the daily reported. The Parool , that many people were there at the time of the incident.

Due to the rise in local crime and the crowds of young party tourists, the area was once dubbed the “square mile of misery” by the police.

In order to calm the unrest and stem the crime, the local authorities even considered moving the prostitutes to a location in the suburbs to preserve this historic district, but most of the people working there demanded less drastic measures.
