“Compared to the pre-crisis level in May 2019, we are still seeing a significant decline of 13.1 percent,” says Sepp Musil, branch manager of the Scheibbs Public Employment Service (AMS). The provisional unemployment rate in the district is currently 2.3 percent and is thus in the top three of the lowest unemployment rates in Lower Austria for the third year in a row.
The clear decline in vacancies also shows that the economy is weakening somewhat. In May 2022, 726 vacancies were reported to AMS Scheibbs, but there are currently 163 fewer – a drop of 22.5 percent. In relative terms, the number of vacancies for apprenticeships has fallen even more. Here the number has more than halved. Nevertheless, the nine apprenticeship seekers can still choose from 30 open apprenticeships in the district.
All in all, the AMS in Lower Austria relies on professional career and educational advice – whether in person, by telephone or online. “These play a central role right now in order to be able to utilize personal skills. This year, 1,139 customers in the Scheibbs district have already ended their unemployment by taking up work. In addition, thanks to our special focus on specialist training, 21 job seekers have already been able to start tailor-made specialist training in the current year,” reports Musil.
The AMS figures for the district of Scheibbs at the end of May 2023 (change from the previous year):
- Total: 418 (+40)
