MADRID, 24 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The death toll from a storm of freezing temperatures that hit parts of the mid-west and eastern United States has risen to 16, following seven states in the North American country have confirmed deaths in the last hours.

According to information collected by the US television network CNN, four people have died in Ohio, three in Kansas, New York and Kentucky, and one in Missouri, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Likewise, more than 900,000 homes and businesses have been left without electricity due to storms, especially in the Northeast region, which includes states such as New York, Maine, New Hampshire or Connecticut.

According to the US media, weather forecasts suggest that the storm will be accompanied in the coming hours by heavy snowfall, blizzards and even flooding in some parts of the northeast coast. At the moment there is no truce in sight until following Christmas Day.

On the other hand, the weather conditions have also caused the cancellation of more than 5,000 flights and the delay of another 10,000 until Friday.
