Among them is “Laram”… anticipation among air transport companies due to monkeypox

Airline companies are on edge after monkeypox cases were reported in some countries around the world.

Among these companies is Royal Air Maroc (RAM), which is awaiting the International Air Transport Association (IATA) memoranda on monkeypox, and whether specific measures should be taken as happened with the new Corona virus.

Based on data from the authorities responsible for border health surveillance in Morocco, the Kingdom’s situation, which is still far from recording a case of monkeypox infection, and the “absence of a significant risk and spread” of this disease, are behind the failure to take specific measures at the level of airport surveillance to date.

According to what was reported by a responsible source at the National Airports Office,
“Monkeypox is transmitted through sexual contact, unlike the coronavirus, which means that its danger is not so great as to require monitoring measures at Moroccan airports.”

The same source explained that the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection have not issued any warnings in this regard to date, which means that no measures have been taken to tighten control at airports in Morocco so far.

For his part, a responsible source at Royal Air Maroc revealed that “the company’s flights to Africa, including countries where monkeypox cases have been announced, are operating normally up to this moment.”

The same source confirmed that “the company’s management is anticipating, preparing and following up on the international situation, especially the International Air Transport Association’s memoranda regarding this disease and the measures it will direct to international airlines.”

The same source stressed that Royal Air Maroc continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection regarding monkeypox, as it has previously held periodic meetings to follow up on the health situation around the world.

It is noteworthy that the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, chaired a meeting last Friday with the specialized scientific committee, devoted to studying epidemiological developments at the national and international levels, within the framework of the proactive measures and continuous efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco in implementation of the royal directives to follow up and evaluate the epidemiological situation of monkeypox.
