The Army Chief of Staff, Muhammad al-Haddad, issued a decision to form a committee to study the demands of the people of the city of Zawiya and to extend security in coordination with the commander of the military region on the western coast, Salah al-Din al-Namroush.

According to a letter to the head of the committee, Nuri al-Shannouk, a copy of which was obtained by Al-Ahrar, the committee is in charge of developing a plan to implement the demands, which would achieve security and stability and eliminate destructive phenomena in the city.

The committee is also in charge of enumerating all the military and security sites in the city, as well as all sites suspected of being exploited by outlaws.

Al-Haddad also demanded that any proposals or recommendations that the committee deems appropriate be referred to the Chief of Staff to refer them to the President of the Presidential Council and the Prime Minister to take the necessary measures.

The security committee includes 8 officers headed by the Director of the Training Department of the Libyan Army, Major General “Nuri Abdel-Ghani Al-Shannouk,” in addition to 6 members of the representatives of the Zawiya Youth Movement and 5 members of the representatives of the elders and notables of the city.

Al-Haddad had agreed with the Council of Elders and notables of the Zawiya and the city’s youth movement to impose the prestige and authority of the state in the Zawiya and held a meeting with the commanders of the 52nd Infantry Brigade in which they discussed the file of securing the city.

Al-Zawiya witnessed popular protests during the past few days and the closure of the main roads and some of the city’s institutions, in protest once morest the deteriorating security situation in the city.
