Among the best photos of the past year are the works of 15min photographers | Culture

The traditional competition “Lithuanian press photography 2024”, which has been organized for 23 years, this time received more than 3,000 photos from 90 professional photographers throughout Lithuania.

Also this year, the competition program was filled with a new “Open” category for photography students and enthusiasts. This category also attracted a lot of attention from the participants – nearly 40 beginner photographers from all over Lithuania submitted their works.

“It is clear that press photography remains important and necessary for society – it is a powerful tool that allows us to look at the world a little more closely, capture important events, emotions and moments of life”, according to the announcement of the competition organizers.

15min photographer Skirmantas Lisauskas’ photography was among the best works in the “News” category, Vidmantas Balkūnas – in the “Portrait” and “Reportage” categories, Ramūnas Jakubauskas’s photo was selected as a finalist in the “Nature and its protection” category, Pauliaus Peleckis’s – in “Armies”, “Diplomacy” and ” Photonarrative” and Greta Skaraitienė – in the “Diplomacy” category.

The organizations organizing the “Lietuvos spaudos fotografia” competition – the Press Photographers Department of the Lithuanian Journalists’ Union and the National Association of Creative Journalists aim to systematically collect authentic visual documentation of the changes in our society through this continuous project.

As every year, the photographs were evaluated by a competent international competition commission, whose members this year were professional photographers Damian Chrobak (Poland), Svetlana Batura (Lithuania), Eero Vabamägi (Estonia), Renaldas Malychas (Lithuania), and a poet, editor-in-chief of the literary monthly “Metai”. The members of the commission were happy with the abundance of interesting and unexpected shots in the “Culture and entertainment” and “Nature and its protection” categories, but noticed that in the “News” category, a number of important events for the country were photographed quite formally.

All the shots selected by the evaluation committee will be seen for the first time at the exhibition in Vilnius City Hall, which will traditionally be opened at the beginning of May. During the opening ceremony, the winners of each category will be announced and awarded with the “Golden Frame” awards, and the winner of the “Open” category will receive a special award.

The annual yearbook accompanying the exhibition “Lietuvos spaudos fotografija 2024” will be presented at the end of May during the closing of the exhibition.
