One of the biggest names in domestic cricket, Amol Mazumdar, has been appointed as the coach of the Indian women’s cricket team. Reports suggest that Mazumdar’s performance in the interview held yesterday for the coaching position has impressed the Cricket Advisory Committee. According to the national media, committee members Ashok Malhotra, Sulakshana Naik and Jatin Paranjpe said that Mazumdar’s 90-minute long presentation was very impressive. After Ramesh Powar stepped down last December, the Indian women’s team is yet to have a coach.
Mazumdar’s first task will be the Bangladesh tour starting on July 9. India will play three ODIs and T20I matches each in Bangladesh. Malayalam player Minnu Mani is also included in the T20 team. Minnu, who hails from Wayanad, is the first Kerala player to play in the women’s national team.
