“Amnesty International has decided to put itself in the path of justice and dignity, that is why it is going for the Approval,” said Rodrigo Bustos, executive director of the NGO in Chile. “The population has a historic opportunity to correct the path of inequalities and injustices of many decades and enshrine Human Rights in a new representative and inclusive Constitution,” said Erika Guevara Rosas, director for the Americas of the NGO.
The NGO Amnesty International announced that it is going for the Approval of the new Constitution in the plebiscite on September 4 and confirmed that it will support that option through a campaign called “Approving is Human”.
“For years Amnesty International has stated that Chile needs a new Constitution because the current one has shown that it does not contribute to reducing inequalities, precariousness and abuses that affect the majority of the population,” they indicated through a statement.
“On the contrary, the current text hinders the necessary changes to achieve a fairer Chile. for that, and Under the certainty that the new Constitution will better guarantee Human Rights, the organization today presents the campaign Approve is Human”.

For her part, Erika Guevara Rosas, director for the Americas of Amnesty International, assured that “the eyes of the world are on Chile.”

Amnesty International provides details of its support for the new Constitution
In Amnesty International’s opinion, the proposed Convention will more robustly enshrine the fundamental rights.
He especially referred to the economic, social, cultural and environmental issues related to adequate access to health, pensions, housing, education, social security, decent work and water, among others.
They also justified their position on the basis that the proposal safeguards the rights of groups with special protectiontraditionally discriminated once morest, such as those with disabilities, children, adolescents and native peoples.
“In no case shall privileges be establishedbut it will be allowed to equalize a situation that until now has generated injustices”, indicated the NGO in its statement.
