Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip. The human rights organization documented two separate attacks on October 19 and 20, in which 46 people, including 20 children, lost their lives.
The attacks targeted a religious building in Gaza, where hundreds of displaced civilians had taken refuge, as well as a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp, in the center of the Gaza Strip. Among the victims, a three-month-old baby and an 80-year-old woman were killed in an attack on a church. These attacks, according to Amnesty International, must be investigated as war crimes.
Amnesty International, which carried out investigations on the ground, collected harrowing testimonies from survivors and relatives of the victims, highlighting the devastating impact of the incessant bombardments by the Israeli army. Erika Guevara-Rosas, research director at Amnesty International, said that “these deadly and illegal attacks are part of established practices characterized by contempt for Palestinian civilians.”
The organization called on the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to accelerate the investigation into war crimes and other violations of international law opening in 2021. Israeli authorities have not presented any credible evidence justifying these strikes, highlighting the reckless nature of these attacks once morest civilians and civilian objects, estimates the NGO.
