An incident occurred in the Delacroix metro station in Anderlecht on Saturday evening. Around 7 p.m., a toxic substance was thrown into it, probably ammonia, reports Het Nieuwsblad on Sunday.

Stib and the Brussels firefighters told our colleagues that two people were taken to hospital for a check, but no one was seriously injured. “An ambulance and the necessary help were sent to the scene, no other intervention was necessary”, specifies the spokesperson for the fire brigade.

“This is probably an assault in which someone threw a product at two people. The reason is unclear. It’s probably ammonia. We cannot confirm this yet”, explains the STIB spokesperson.

The metro line was interrupted for regarding fifteen minutes. An investigation is underway to clarify the reasons for this act.

A woman who was going to the Rammstein concert that evening testified: “We weren’t hit by the liquid, but a dozen other people were. The authors are probably two men. One of them threw a bottle of liquid into our train just before getting out. At first we thought it was soft drinks. Two minutes later we started to smell urine and then the smell became unbearable. We mightn’t breathe and see properly, our eyes started to burn. Everyone held their breath and closed their eyes,” she told the Flemish media.

The two officials got on at the Clemenceau stop and got off at Delacroix, where they emptied the substance. “We knew it was ammonia and we had to get out as quickly as possible. Everyone left at Gare de l’Ouest”, continues the witness of the scene.
