AMLO with 60% approval, according to survey

MEXICO CITY.- This Thursday, in his usual morning conference, the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obradorannounced that, according to a survey published by the El Financiero newspaperthe citizen approval his management reached 60%, one month before the presidential election.

In the measurement made in April, the president’s approval is higher than in March (58%), while 39% disapproved of the head of the federal Executive, a percentage lower than the 41% of the previous month.

Despite general popularity, almost two out of every three Mexicans, 64%, disapprove of his management of public security, with a positive assessment of 23%.

Meanwhile, 42% consider his management of the economy “very bad/bad,” and 38% see it as “very good/good.”

In the fight once morest corruption, the president’s main crusade, 54% evaluate his work negatively and 29% positively.

Its best evaluated area is social support, supported by 57% of the population and disapproved by 28%.

The survey highlights that 48% consider it a “success” to have broken relations with Ecuador following the assault on the Mexican Embassy in Quito on April 5, while 34% see it as a “mistake.”

In contrast, 48% think that it was a mistake to have given asylum to former Ecuadorian vice president Jorge Glas (2013-2017), who had been sheltering in the Mexican diplomatic headquarters since December, and only 34% see it as correct.

In general, 39% of the population sees López Obrador’s foreign policy “very good/good” and 36% “bad/very bad.”

The study is published following the start of the presidential campaigns on March 1 and one month before the elections, when 98 million voters are called to renew the presidency, Congress and nine state governments.

Last week, El Financiero published a survey in which the ruling party’s presidential candidate, Claudia Sheinbaumleads with 49% of the preferences, while the opposition Xochitl Galvez captures 32% and Jorge Álvarez Máynez the 8 %.

The survey published this Thursday, which has a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of 3.5%, was conducted among 800 adults with telephone calls from April 17 to 24.
