Through social networks, the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced that he has COVID-19, for which he canceled the tours that he had scheduled for different states of the country.

In addition, López Obrador indicated within the same Twitter message that it will be Adán Augusto López, Secretary of the Interior, who will transmit the messages during the daily press conference, known as “Mañanera.”

“No way, friends and friends, I tested positive for COVID-19. It’s not serious. My heart is 100 and since I had to suspend the tour, I’m in Mexico City and from afar I celebrate Jesús Ernesto’s 16th birthday. I will save a few days, Adán Augusto López will lead the mornings. See you soon,” the president wrote.

Finally, AMLO stressed that he will celebrate the 16th birthday of his son Jesús Ernesto “from afar”, for the days that he will be isolated while the symptoms of the virus disappear.

On the morning of this Sunday, at the last moment, the president suspended his tour in Mérida, in the state of Yucatán, where he would go to review the progress of the works of his emblematic project, the Mayan Train.

Earlier it was announced that López Obrador suspended, without informing the reason, his work tour in Mérida, where he was going to meet Governor Mauricio Vila.

January 24, 2021 was the first time that López Obrador was infected with coronavirus. On that occasion, the then Secretary of the Interior, Olga Sánchez Cordero, was in charge of giving the daily conference for 15 days.

The second occasion was on January 10, 2022, when he was only absent for four days and met with his cabinet.

The head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, wished the president a “speedy recovery”.

In the same way, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, wished that his health improve soon and took the opportunity to congratulate Jesús Ernesto.
