MEXICO CITY.- During his usual morning conference this Friday, the president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorassured that the businessman Carlos Slim is interested in participating in the exploitation of a natural gas field on the coast of Gulf of Mexico.
“It is a gas field that was abandoned by the previous government, between 1.5 and 2 billion dollars were invested and we are looking for all these facilities to be used and a partnership is being sought,” said the president.
He added, “We already had a study, an agreement with a company from the United States, but it was more dedicated to the construction of a gasification plant in Altamira, which has already been completed, a gas liquefaction plant, the other commitment was no longer possible and it seems that a Slim company is going to participate, they are already looking at it.”
It has been learned that since last March Pemex and Slim have been discussing the development of the country’s first deepwater natural gas field, in Lakach, a project abandoned by previous administrations.
The Lakach field is the gateway to deepwater natural gas and Pemex has stated that finding a new partner is a top priority.
