AMLO once again blames the US for violence in Culiacán

CULIACAN.- The president Andrés Manuel López Obrador again he pointed to USA as the cause of the violence crisis in Culiacan, Sinaloa.

During the inauguration of the dam’s irrigation area ‘Holy Mary’ in El Rosario, Sinaloathe president stated that the crisis began due to a “bad decision” made from abroad.

Furthermore, AMLO assured that during his administration “something like this never happened,” referring to the more than 20 days of clashes in Culiacán.

AMLO blames the US for violence in Culiacán

This Saturday, from Sinaloa, President López Obrador responded to the travel alert issued by the US embassy due to the clashes in Culiacán.

“That’s why we are here, because those from the United States embassy issued a notice: ‘Do not go to Sinaloa, do not go to Culiacán.’ Well, here we are to say: how can we not be here.”

The president assured that during his six-year term “there was never any problem” with organized crime, and the current acts of violence were due to actions abroad.

This in reference to the arrest of the drug trafficker Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada and one of his partner’s children, Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmánin El Paso, Texas.

Following the arrests, factions controlled by ‘Los Chapitos’ and Zambada started an internal war in the Sinaloa Cartel.

“During the entire government we did not have any problems, it was in these last days […] for a decision they made that was not correct and that was forged abroad.”

AMLO maintained that in Mexico “We do not accept interference, we are not a colony, we are a free, independent, sovereign country,” regarding the US operation.

He also emphasized the presence of the Armed forces in the entity to guarantee peace and security.

However, there are at least 118 deaths in Sinaloa since the beginning of the confrontation between drug trafficking factions on September 9.

“Welcome to Culiacán”: message from the drug trafficker to AMLO and Claudia Sheinbaum

Despite AMLO’s statements, during the early hours of this Saturday a white van painted with the legend “Welcome to Culiacán” and several bodies inside were located.

The “narco message” and the eight bodies of dead men occurred on the same day as the visit of AMLO and the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, and Sinaloa.

Ken Salazar denies US responsibility

Ken Salazar, US ambassador to Mexico, denied that the security crisis in Culiacán is the fault of his country, and reiterated that it is a problem that the Mexican authority must “define” and “solve.”

“You cannot understand how the responsibility of the United States can be for the massacres that we see in different places, like what was seen in Morelos yesterday or what is being seen in Sinaloa, that is not the fault of the United States.”

During a tour of Chihuahua, he highlighted that Mexico faces a problem of insecurity and violence, not related to the United States.
