AMLO meets with Omar García Harfuch; this is what we know

MEXICO CITY.- The president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador met with Omar García Harfuchannounced by Claudia Sheinbaum as the next holder of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) in his cabinet.

On his social media, García Harfuch shared a photo with the president, with a brief message: “Thank you Mr. President López Obrador.”

Yesterday evening, Wednesday, August 7, President López Obrador received García Harfuch in his office in National Palace.

Sources of The Universal They said that the meeting lasted just over an hour, and they discussed the security policy of AMLO’s six-year term and the one planned for the next administration.

Although the security strategy for the next six-year term was discussed, the virtual president-elect was not present at the meeting between AMLO and García Harfuch.

This meeting takes place a month after the Mexico City government official was named as the next head of the SSPC.

The last time AMLO had a security meeting was on January 20, 2023, prior to a ‘morning’ conference from the Old Town Hallseat of government of the Mexico City.

Claudia Sheinbaum, then head of the Mexico City Government, was present at the morning press conference.

Mention of García Harfuch in AMLO’s ‘morning press conference’

In the ‘morning’ conference This Thursday, AMLO confirmed the meeting with García Harfuch and indicated that they spoke about the security policy of the current president.

According to President López Obrador, he spoke with García Harfuch about the importance of addressing the causes of crime.

He also said that García Harfuch “was a good Secretary of Public Security in Mexico City.”
