President López Obrador defended his veto of the two commissioners approved by the Senate to join the INAI plenary session on Thursday morning. In his words, “everything indicates that the two candidates were distributed: one for Morena and the other for the PAN.” Likewise, he stressed that the veto is a constitutional right and that the distribution of candidates “should not be allowed”, emphasizing that “Zero corruption, zero impunity, no negotiations in the dark, because without a doubt there was an agreement.”

In contrast, the president praised Senator Ricardo Monreal, calling him a “professional politician” and “linked to the transformation movement.” López Obrador also attacked the INAI, accusing it of forgiving taxes to those who did not pay them and keeping the names of those who participated in corruption hidden, as in the cases of Odebrecht and the former Secretary of Public Security, Genaro García Luna.

The president explained that the institute receives an annual budget of 982 million pesos, which it uses “to simulate, for a cover, for a screen.” In addition, he pointed out that the commissioners receive a net salary of 106,000 pesos and extraordinary payments of 36,000 pesos. These details served to support his veto of the two INAI commissioners.

AMLO objected to the appointment of Ana Yadira Alarcón Márquez and Rafael Luna Alviso, elected by the Senate of the Republic, to join the INAI plenary session on Wednesday. In his defense, the president reiterated that the president’s veto is a constitutional right and that the distribution of candidates should not be allowed. According to him, “We cannot accept those rinses. That was from the PRIAN era, when they were distributed”.

President López Obrador stressed that it is crucial that the current government does not allow corruption or impunity, since this goes once morest the principles and goals of the transformation movement.

In this sense, AMLO emphasized that “people who have no principles, who have no ideals, who are receiving a very high salary, should not be allowed to continue arriving.”
