AMLO defends Manuel Bartlett, after accusations of alleged enrichment

MEXICO CITY.— If there are elements that point to irregularities in the acquisition of the properties of the family ofThe general director of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Manuel Bartlettthat the The Attorney General’s Office proceedshe said President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

“We are asking the Attorney General’s Office to conduct an investigation to see if there is a conflict of interest between Mr. Bartlett’s family and him as a public servant,” he said.

Would you do it with the elements that are being provided?

“Yes, the Prosecutor’s Office should do it, but that is not the purpose, it is a campaign,” he accused.

The president accused that it is a campaign against Bartlett, but also against his government. for the benefits that the family of the director of the CFE will obtain with the arrival of the Virtual Trends.

“What I do maintain is that what There is an intention on the part of (the magazine) Proceso to discredit and slander Mr. Bartlett and the government that I represent.just look at the cover of Proceso about what you are talking about, because it gives the impression that we made the Mayan Train to favor the family of Mr. Bartlett… It is like when Carmen Aristegui, another champion of freedom, announced that the program We had implemented Sembrando Vida for cocoa for the chocolate factory that my children have.“, he said.

“What does that have to do with it?”

The President showed the cover of Proceso from August: “Here it is, the Bartlett paradise in the Mayan Train route (…) What does the Mayan Train have to do with it?“, he questioned.

He even suggested that the headline and the cover “could have been left to him” ‘The Bartletts’ paradise in Cancun or Quintana Roo’but it was to stain us or try to involve us and that is the mafia journalism of the Process, with all due respect to Mr. Julio.”

“It is not that the Mayan Train was built to benefit them, obviously not, but Bartlett’s entire trajectory, with information that at some point there was going to be development in the Southeast, of a plan that was never carried out as in this government, but that since 2012 there was a plan for growth, is around what he has mentioned about speculation,” he added.

So, I asked him: Does that exempt the family from having these types of very expensive properties now, thanks to their maneuvers?

It’s a family affairof the personal, but you do not treat the case like that, even if there was corruption like all citizens, We have the obligation to report it and we have to go to the Prosecutor’s Office and file a complaint, but not slander,” he said.

The president reiterated that “the Attorney General’s Office must be asked by letter to clarify the Bartlett family case with your information. Also, by letter, Claudio X. González should say how much money he received, from whom, for the campaign”.

At the beginning, President López Obrador admitted that his administration has always denounced all such fraudulent operations.

“The previous governors of Quintana Roo stole – and that would be a good topic for Proceso, the Xel-Há trust, We are talking about thousands of hectares.”

In the August edition, Proceso published that Bartlett’s partner, Julia Abdullah Lemus, and his son Leon Manuel Bartlett Alvarez “They acquired large properties at undervalued prices in strategic locations, which today benefit from their proximity to the federal government’s mega-projects in this region.”

“Although the project was mentioned in the campaign of the PRI member Enrique Peña Nieto in 2012 (as a transpeninsular project with a route between Yucatán and Quintana Roo), it was finally expanded and implemented by López Obrador (…) Its extension adds up to nearly 164 hectares of land in exclusive areas of Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Tulum,” the report indicates.— Proceso
