Two clashes between criminal groups left a total of 10 dead and 13 Guatemalans detained in the state of Chiapas, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported this Wednesday, April 3.

In his morning conference, the Mexican president denied a report from the Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Human Rights Center (Frayba), which on Tuesday, April 2, stated that there were 25 deaths due to a clash between organized crime and the National Guard.

“There were two confrontations between two groups in Chiapas and that human rights organization spoke of 25 (deceased), which is not true, there must have been like 10. Five in one part and another five another day,” he noted and accused the group citizen of lying.

Given the clashes, he added, the Mexican authorities carried out an operation in which they confiscated 22 rifles, 149 magazines, two trucks and an undetermined amount of cartridges.

The Mexican ruler indicated that Both events occurred in the area of ​​the La Concordia community, near the border with Guatemala.

In one of the confrontations, he said, “they entered a ranch, which supposedly belongs to a group leader, and they confronted each other.”

While in the other, the criminals confronted the National Guard near a camp where the agents monitor the construction of two public bridges.

Even so, it did not detail the criminal groups involved or the identity of those detained.

The president acknowledged that authorities have faced “problems” on Mexico’s southern border, where there is a wave of violence with communities displaced by organized crime. the dispute between drug trafficking cartels that seek to control the passage from Central America.

López Obrador indicated that 13 people of Guatemalan nationality who were allegedly involved in the events were arrested.

“This (where the events occurred) is very close to the border, it is where we have the most problems, the area of ​​Chiapas with Guatemala, the Comalapa Border to Motozintla,” he mentioned.
