A Apple announced in a statement released recently which will be the first and largest customer of the new factory Amkorwhich will be located in Peoria, in the US state of Arizona.

According to the company, Amkor will package (a term known as packagingin English) the Apple Silicon that will be produced in the American factory of TSMC (whose opening has been postponed until 2025), which will also be located in the aforementioned American state.

Packaging is the final stage of manufacturing an integrated circuit, in which everything is encapsulated in a supporting box to prevent physical damage and corrosion. This box, known as the package, supports the electrical contacts that connect the device to a circuit board.

Apple is deeply committed to the future of American manufacturing and we will continue to expand our investment here in the United States. Apple Silicon has unlocked new levels of performance for our users, allowing them to do things they might never do before, and we’re excited that Apple Silicon will soon be produced and packaged in Arizona.

The future Amkor factory will be the largest (and most advanced) outsourced chip packaging facility in the United States, with an investment of approximately US$2 billion and forecast to employ more than 2,000 people. According to the company itselfit plans to begin production at the facility in the next two to three years.

As also highlighted by the Cupertino giant, it and Amkor have worked together for more than a decade and its investments in advanced manufacturing are part of the commitment, made in 2021, to invest US$430 billion in the US economy over five years.
