Amjad Islam Amjad, who ruled the world of drama writing, passed away

Renowned poet, writer, playwright and columnist Amjad Islam passed away on Friday after suffering a heart attack in Lahore. According to his son Ali Zeeshan, he was perfectly fine when he suddenly suffered a heart attack and could not die.

He was invited to a literary event in Lahore on Friday evening and posters were also printed in this regard.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the death of Amjad Islam Amjad and said that his services for literature will be remembered for a long time. He said that ‘with his death, Pakistani literature has lost a great writer and poet.’

Amjad Islam Amjad’s fellow poet and dramatist Asghar Nadeem Syed said, ‘Amjad Islam Amjad’s services to Urdu literature are so great that no words can be expressed. He was his example and always had a unique identity in the world of knowledge and literature. The void created by his death may never be filled.’

He said that ‘Amjad Sahib was such a personality that he also perfected poetry, he also achieved a rise in drama writing and his writings became an integral part of Urdu literature.’

Renowned writer Mustansar Hussain Tarr said that he was supposed to participate with me in the Pakistan Literature Festival that started in Lahore today, but was very saddened by his sudden death. Don’t even dare to say anything about it, till night they were perfectly fine.’

According to the family, his funeral prayers will be offered in Lahore and burial will take place here.

The Executive Director of Al-Hamra, Zulfiqar Ali Zulfi, expressed deep sorrow and regret over the death of Amjad Islam Amjad, saying that he was a member of the governing body of Al-Hamra many times. Amjad Islam Amjad was unique in his art, his example is difficult to find. Alhamra Amjad Islam will continue to advance the art of Amjad.

Amjad Islam’s first collection of poetry ‘Barzakh’ was published in 1974, but he gained national fame when his drama ‘Waras’ was aired on Pakistan Television in 1979. It is said about this drama that on the evening it was shown on TV, people used to leave all their work and sit in front of the TV screen.

This drama became so popular that not only in India but also in China people watched it with interest and it was dubbed in Chinese language.

Even after ‘Waras’, he wrote several dramas for Pakistan Television including ‘Dahleez’, ‘Fashar’ and ‘Day’ etc., but none of them could touch the heights of ‘Waras’.

After 2000, private channels in Pakistan became popular, so Amjad Sahib also wrote plays for many such channels.

In addition to Barzakh, Amjad Sahib’s other poetry collections include ‘Satuvan Dar’, ‘Zara Re-Keha’, ‘Ai Mein Tere Sapane’, ‘Asaar’, ‘Atene Khob Kareo Khoar,’ ‘Dreams Don’t Talk’, ‘Sahar Athar’. ,’ ‘The wind of the shores,’ ‘Then it happened,’ ‘Near,’ ‘Evening inn,’ etc. His poetry has been translated into German and Turkish languages.

Many songs written by Amjad Islam Amjad were sung by famous singers and also reached the lips of the people. Among them are ‘Main Tere Sing Keise Chalo Sajna’ (Madam Noor Jahan), ‘Love Dream Ki Soorat’ (Sadhana Sargam), ‘Love’s Chain Kuch Oor’ (Amjad Parvez) etc.

Amjad Islam Amjad was born on August 4, 1944 in Lahore. He did his MA in Urdu from Jamia Punjab in 1967 with first division. From 1968 to 1975, he was a professor in the Department of Urdu at MAO College, Lahore.

In August 1975, he was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Punjab Art Council. In the 90s, his services were again assigned to the Education Department and he was again associated with the teaching department at MAO College itself. From here he was posted as Director Children’s Complex and retired from there.

In 1975, he received the Graduate Award for the TV drama ‘Khavab Jagte Hain’.

Amjad Islam Amjad was awarded the Tagha Hasan in 1987, while in 1998 he was awarded the Star of Distinction.
