In the night from Sunday to Monday, the 24-year-old was arrested by Los Angeles police for “offence of possession of a firearm” according TMZ Sports. ESPN completes the information by reporting the words of the spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, who mentioned a “carrying a firearm concealed in a vehicle”.
Stopped for speeding, the car Coffey was in was searched during which officers found a loaded pistol, which he admitted to being the owner. California being one of the American states in which carrying a weapon without a license is prohibited, Coffey was immediately incarcerated, then released four hours later after posting $10,000 bail. He will appear in court in the coming weeks.

The Clippers immediately responded with a statement stating: “We are aware of a legal situation involving Amir Coffey and we are looking into it”. In view of the latest gun cases concerning Ja Morant, Coffey could face penalties from his franchise, or even the NBA. Last season, the guard played 50 games for the Clippers, averaging 3.4 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 12.5 minutes. He still has two years left on his contract.
