The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that it has detected the virus in at least 13 countries, a 160% increase from last year, and deaths have risen by 19%.
In this regard, Mayo Clinic revealed the most important steps that must be followed to prevent monkeypox (mpox). And prevent its spread:
– Avoid close contact with people who have a rash that looks like monkeypox.
– Avoid touching clothing, sheets, blankets, or other materials that have been touched by an infected animal or person.
– Isolating people infected with monkeypox virus from healthy people.
– Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after any contact with an infected person or animal. You can also use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
– Avoid animals that may carry the virus.
What is the treatment of mpox?
Treatment for most people with mpox is aimed at relieving symptoms, including reducing skin damage caused by the rash, drinking enough fluids to help keep stools soft, and managing pain.
If you have mpox, isolate yourself at home in a separate room from family and pets, until the rash heals.
There is no specific approved treatment for monkeypox. Health care professionals may treat the disease with some of the antiviral medications used to treat smallpox, such as tecovirimat (TPOXX) or brincidofovir (Tembexa).
The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, declared the monkeypox epidemic in Africa a “public health emergency of international concern.”
The African Union health body also declared a public health emergency, the highest level of alert, on Tuesday over the outbreak of monkeypox on the continent.
