Alibaba Group said on Wednesday it is developing a tool similar to GPT Chat and is currently in the internal testing phase, joining a race by technology companies around the world to showcase their ability to keep up with the pace of development in the field of generative artificial intelligence.
The Chinese e-commerce group’s statement came following the 21st Century Herald reported that Alibaba is developing a tool capable of conducting GPT-like chats, and that it is now available to the group’s employees for testing.
Alibaba declined to comment when asked regarding the newspaper report, which also mentioned that Alibaba may integrate the technology with the group’s communication application, DingTalk.
The company said it had focused for years on large language models and generative AI. Large language models are natural language processing systems trained on large amounts of text and are able to answer questions, comprehend questions, and generate new text.
