A serious injury occurred on Saturday, March 16 in the followingnoon in a closed playground in Amfilochia, when a 9-year-old girl entered the area where other children were playing despite the fact that it was locked by the Municipality of Amfilochia due to inappropriateness.
The child was injured by a faulty machine, cutting his right ear, and was immediately taken to the Amfilochia Health Center. Due to the seriousness of the injury, the doctors decided to transfer him to the Hatzikosta hospital in Ioannina, where he was on duty and 20 stitches were needed to reconnect the girl’s ear.
This injury has caused concern and steps should be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The need for immediate renovation and responsibility
The playgrounds in the Municipality of Amfilochia, despite the great desire of the children and families of the area, are in a worrying state. The poor quality of construction by the contractor has left the playgrounds in an unacceptable state of disrepair, which is causing serious concern to residents.
The image of playgrounds is far from what is called a real playground, as shown by the recent reaction of residents in Loutro Square, expressing their dissatisfaction, the appearance of a substandard playground not only undermines the expectations of residents, but also poses a threat for the safety of children.
Both the previous and the current Municipal Authority did not take responsibility for the operation of the children’s entertainment areas, as long as the restoration required to ensure the appropriate conditions for children’s entertainment and safety is not done.
The need for immediate action is paramount. Playgrounds must be renovated and upgraded to meet the safety and quality standards required for children’s safe and enjoyable fun. Playgrounds are essential for children’s entertainment and social development. Spaces should be safe, quality and accessible for all our young citizens.
