Are you promoting your new album ‘Cumbia despechada’?

That’s right, it’s an album that was born in the pandemic and we turned it into an album of pure feelings of heartbreak, spite, and suffering. We are currently sharing the third single called ‘Here below’ and can be heard on all digital platforms. It is a very passionate album, which maintains the line of heartbreak and misunderstandings that I marked from the first album where different and great composers from Peru participated, such as Estanis Mogollón, Pelo D’Ambrosio, William Luna, and many others.

Cumbia is currently experiencing an international boom, how do you perceive it?

Not only with the more traditional groups that are always setting the tone, but also with more pop artists since Sebastián Yatra recorded ‘Amor PASSENGER’ or when Camilo’s song of the year ‘Vida de Rico’ is also another cumbia. Many others, like Juanes, also do it with an air of rock, and I see that cumbia is going through an important moment.

Do you plan to record once more with a Peruvian soloist or group…

That desire is always there, I have already recorded and shared the stage with many Peruvians such as the Candela group, Group 5, the Yaipén Brothers and Maricarmen Marín, who are very talented and with an international level. Right now I want to record with Tony Succar, who is my great friend and I seek to bring him to the world of cumbia, it is always good to have new airs in music.

Although you breathe cumbia, one of your passions is rock…

That’s right, and I still enjoy it privately, it’s one of the pleasures I’ve had since my youth. Music moves us in various stages of life and is enjoyed.

You arrive soon in Lima to offer a concert with ‘Los Ángeles Azules’…

Yes, I am as a Alex Reed of the South American tour of ‘Los Ángeles Azules’, the number one band on the planet. They invited me and we will be in Lima with a spectacular show on June 9 at the Arena Peru.

You’re going to meet many fans…

I have always wanted to continue visiting them, to make a name for myself, to be known, for that reason, I am happy to go and sing to them and everything that brings that… because it is also important to go eat ceviche, drink pisco… Be careful, I don’t care whose pisco it is, whether it’s from Chile or Peru, the important thing is to enjoy it.

How did you experience the pandemic?

Despite how hard the pandemic was, I was able to record, release new material and share the releases with the public, and I was able to get through it in a good way.

Looking for the positive in every moment…

You always have to take the positive out of every experience, it’s an opportunity for something, you have to be attentive to discover what it is, and this pause, this silence that we lived strengthened patience, creativity and personally, being able to be more close to my family.
