American veteran John Isner will not participate in the next Rome Masters. The 38-year-old and his wife, Madison McKinley, recently welcomed their fourth child, and John is keen to spend more time with his family before returning to competition.
Isner has played 11 matches in 2023, reducing its program and leaving the top 50 for the first time since 2009 following 686 consecutive weeks! John has 23 wins in 2022, keeping him in the top 50 for another season.
However, he has only won four games in 2023, struggling to find form and dropping out of the top-50 for the first time in 13½ years! After four extraordinary years at the University of Georgia, Isner was ready to embark on the pursuit of professional success.
John made his first ATP Finals in Washington in the summer of 2007, just a week following winning the Lexington Challenger. The Greensboro native climbed over 500 spots on the ATP list in 14 days and broke into the top 100 in February 2008.

He stayed away from that group for nearly a year before returning in June 2009, never to leave the elite 100 once more.
Improving every element of his game and working hard to reach his best tennis, Isner appeared in 31 ATP Finals, winning 16 titles and winning the most in Miami five years ago.
John won 30 or more ATP matches every year between 2010 and 2019 and qualified for the ATP Finals for the first time in his career in 2018, aged 33! John started the previous season in the top 25, but mightn’t keep up his usual pace and stay in the top 30.
He lacked notable results and struggled with injuries, embracing a 23-17 scoreline and only playing one tournament following the US Open. Isner has won four matches in 2023, reaching the Dallas Open final with a memorable battle once morest Yibing Wu.
The Chinese fended off four match points to win 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, preventing Isner from claiming his first ATP title since Atlanta 2021. John lost five matches in a row to end his run in the top 50 following almost 700 weeks, failing in the opener in Houston and skipping the European clay tournament.
Isner has appeared nine times at Foro Italico, winning nine and reaching the semi-finals in 2017 following victories over Stan Wawrinka and Marin Cilic. The American faced Rafael Nadal in the second round a year ago and suffered a 6-3, 6-1 loss in an hour and 17 minutes.
