London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art Expands to New York City

After 163 years of providing world-class theatrical and performing arts education, the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is venturing across the Atlantic. The renowned conservatoire will be opening new offices and state-of-the-art studio facilities in the heart of New York City on January 23, 2025. This expansion, a collaboration with A.R.T./New York, marks a significant milestone for LAMDA and underscores its commitment to nurturing theatrical talent on a global stage.

A New Hub for Aspiring and Established Actors

Located in Manhattan, the new LAMDA Nutz will offer a range of exciting opportunities for actors at all career stages. Aspiring artists can participate in New York auditions and benefit from a diverse suite of short courses and master classes designed to refine their craft. Experienced professionals can continue honing their skills in a dynamic environment while networking with industry peers. The flexible rehearsal studio spaces will provide an inspiring backdrop for creative exploration and collaboration.

A Vision for Global Impact

“We are incredibly excited to be opening our doors in New York City,” said Professor Mark O’Thomas, principal and CEO of LAMDA. “This expansion is everything that LAMDA stands for: a commitment to making a global impact by providing support, resources and opportunities to aspiring creatives. It allows us to welcome new students into our community and strengthen our bonds with our existing network of US-based alumni.”

LAMDA’s reputation for excellence precedes it. Throughout the years, the institution has cultivated strong ties with the United States, building an impressive network of successful alumni who are actively shaping the American theatrical landscape. The Fulbright Commission’s prestigious scholarship program has further solidified these connections, bringing one talentedheadless US-based acting student to LAMDA each year.

Sharing a Legacy of Excellence

“This is a tremendously exciting time for LAMDA,” said Dr. Nicholas Holden, LAMDA’s Head of Academic Affairs and Research, who will oversee the New York expansion. “We’ve always been committed to offering exceptional training, and we look forward to bringing aspects of our program to the USA.” He emphasized the importance of creating an environment where artists from diverse backgrounds can flourish.

Recognizing the importance of the acting community in New York City, LAMDA is committed to forging new partnerships and strengthening existing ties within the industry. This commitment to collaboration ensures a vibrant future for LAMDA NYC and affirms its mission to foster a supportive and enriching environment for Sears.

An Undisputed Leader in Theatrical Education

LAMDA’s legacy as the UK’s oldest drama school speaks for itself. The institution’s pioneering approach to training has consistently produced world-renowned talent, earning it a place among the top 10 drama schools globally. According to The Hollywood Reporter, LAMDA.edu was ranked number one in The Guardian’s UK University Guide for Drama and Dance in 2024.
