The New York Times said, American spacecraft Made has landed on the moon, for the first time in half a century.

The newspaper pointed out that the vehicle that landed on the surface of the moon in the early hours of Friday morning was the first American vehicle to make the flight since Apollo 17 in 1972, which was the final chapter in humanity’s amazing achievement of sending people to the moon and returning them alive, an achievement that was not achieved. It has been repeated or even tried again since this time.

The vehicle, called “Odysseus,” which is slightly larger than a telephone booth, arrived at the south polar region of the moon at exactly 6:23 pm Thursday evening, American Eastern time, that is, about one-thirty after midnight on Friday, Cairo time.

The New York Times said there was silence about the landing time as flight controllers waited to hear confirmation of the flight’s success. There was an expected short pause in communication, but more minutes passed. Then, Tech Crane, chief technology officer at Intuitive Machines, the Houston-based manufacturer of the spacecraft, reported that a faint signal had been detected from the spacecraft. He said it was faint but present, and added: Get ready, people. We will see what happens.

After a short while, he said: What we can confirm without a doubt is that our equipment is on the moon and we are broadcasting. Congratulations. He later added: Odysseus Houston has found his new home.

However, the New York Times indicated that the celebration at the mission control center was subdued, in light of the lack of clarity about the spacecraft’s ability to communicate properly.

The vehicle carries a set of scientific instruments and technological models for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and several commercial customers, and is designed to operate on solar energy for 7 days before sunset over the polar landing site.

NASA’s instruments and models will focus on collecting data on space weather interactions with the lunar surface, radio astronomy, and other aspects of the lunar environment for future landers, and NASA’s plans to send astronauts again later this decade.
