American soldier held in Russia, Sergeant Gordon Black, is accused of stealing from a woman in Vladivostok.
According to Russian reports, Black met the woman online and they lived together for some time. The woman accuses Black of stealing 200,000 rubles (about 2,000 euros) from her.
Citing the press office of the court, RIA reported that the soldier is named Gordon Black and will be detained until July 2.
“The court in Pervomaisky district issued the arrest warrant for US soldier Gordon Black…, according to the theft article of the Russian Criminal Code,” RIA reported citing the court’s spokesman.
The Army of USA announced yesterday that it had been informed of the arrest, without officially announcing the soldier’s name. A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the soldier was serving at a base in South Korea. Another US official said the soldier is accused of committing theft against a woman.
The Russian daily Izvestia, citing an unnamed source, said the sergeant from an American base in South Korea met a woman from the port of Vladivostok online. According to the same newspaper, the couple lived together for a period of time, while the American soldier stole 200,000 rubles (2,039 euros) from the woman.
With information from newsbeast, Reuters was unable to independently confirm the Russian newspaper’s report.
According to a newer report by the Interfax news agency, the foreign national who has been arrested on charges of theft is facing up to five years in prison. Interfax cites the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
