American singer and songwriter Eric Carmen, known for the hit All By Myself, died at the age of 74. Referring to the statement of his wife Amy, the BBC News reported regarding it on Tuesday. Carmen was a member of The Raspberries in the 1970s, and his solo career was also successful. In the 1980s, he sang the love song Hungry Eyes from the cult film Sinful Dance.

“Our kind, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep over the weekend,” she said on Carmen’s website his wife. “It brought him great joy that his music has touched so many people over the decades and will be his lasting legacy,” she added in a statement.
The Ohio-born singer co-founded the Raspberries, which released its debut album in 1972. Some songs from this record made it to the American and British charts, including the song Go All The Way. It was banned by the BBC in Britain due to its sexually suggestive lyrics and was later included on the soundtrack to the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy. After four albums together, the band broke up in 1975 and Carmen went solo.
Among the solo compositions for which he is most famous is All By Myself, which later became one of the most iconic hits of the Canadian singer Celine Dion. The song was also featured in the opening scene of Bridget Jones’s Diary.
As a songwriter, Carmen’s credits include Almost Paradise from the Footloose soundtrack, Never Gonna Fall In Love Again and Make Me Lose Control.
