American figure skater Alice Liu retired at 16

American figure skater Alice Liu announced that she was ending her sports career.

“I want to announce that I am retiring from figure skating. I started skating when I was 5 years old, so I spent about 11 years on the ice, and it was crazy 11 years! There was a lot of good and a lot of bad, but what is, is. I have made so many friends and so many good memories that I will have for the rest of my life.

I honestly never thought that I would achieve so much. I’m so happy! I am so happy with how my figure skating career has turned out! Now that I’ve finally achieved my skating goals, I’m going to move on with my life.

I’ll probably just spend all my free time with family and friends and I’m also going to study. But figure skating taught me much more in life than I expected. I am very glad that I skated,” Liu wrote.

Alice Liu is 16 years old, she is a two-time US champion (2019, 2020), a bronze medalist at the 2022 World Cup. She placed seventh at the Beijing Olympics.

The figure will raise the age limit to 17 years. What are the reasons and why 86% of athletes are for?
