American broadcaster quits Twitter

The American National Public Radio “NPR” announced that it will officially abandon Twitter on the “Twitter” platform.

He explained that the decision came following the social platform owned by Elon Musk was attached to the official account of the news organization, which it said undermined its credibility.

Last week, Twitter described the main account of NPR as “state-related media,” and later changed the classification to “government-funded media,” and attached it to several other organizations, including: the Public Broadcasting Corporation in the United States and the BBC. C in the United Kingdom.

And “NPR” said, in a statement, yesterday, that it “will no longer be active on Twitter; Because the platform has taken actions that undermine our credibility, by falsely claiming that we are not editorially independent.

The Public Broadcasting Corporation in the United States stated that it will also refrain from tweeting from its main account due to the new classification, stressing that it does not plan to return.

No tweets have been posted on NPR’s main account since April 4, and yesterday, the account posted several tweets to other places where the journalism it produces can be found.

A spokeswoman for the company, Isabel Lara, pointed out that journalists, employees and member stations of the radio can decide for themselves whether they want to continue using Twitter.

The radio gets US government funding through grants from federal agencies and agencies, as well as the Public Broadcasting Corporation, which said it contributes less than 1 percent of NPR’s actual annual budget.
