A metal fence more than two meters high was installed around the official residence of the US Vice Presidents in Washington, where Harris currently resides.
Small red and white signs reading “Prohibited Area” were also placed.
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a statement that it had established a command center in Washington to monitor threats related to the presidential elections in the country.
“The FBI guards the General Election Command Center (NECP) 24 hours a day at FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., during the week of the 2024 General Election,” the agency said in a statement.
“The General Elections Command Center will monitor significant complaints received from all 55 FBI field offices through their respective command centers,” the statement said.
Since April, the FBI has allegedly received more than 2,000 complaints of threats to election officials, at least 100 investigations have been opened, and legal charges have been brought against more than 20 suspects.
“Election officials across the country are being subjected to a barrage of threats, and law enforcement agencies across the country are devoting significant resources to ensuring public security,” ABC News reported, citing a New York Police source.
The US presidential elections are scheduled to be held on November 5, and the Democratic Party will be represented by US Vice President Kamala Harris, and the Republican Party will be represented by former President Donald Trump.
The Washington Post newspaper considered that the Americans’ choice between presidential election candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris is the worst presidential choice in the history of the United States of America.

**Interview with Security Analyst, Dr. Ellen Thompson**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us, Dr. Thompson. Given the recent installation of a metal fence around Vice President Kamala Harris’s residence and the FBI’s establishment of a command center due to threats related to the upcoming presidential election, what does this say about the current political climate in the U.S.?
**Dr. Thompson:** Thank you for having me. The heightened security measures reflect an increasingly volatile political environment. The fact that the FBI has reported over 2,000 complaints related to threats against election officials is alarming. It signals not only the contentious nature of this election cycle but also the serious concerns surrounding voter safety and election integrity.
**Interviewer:** With the FBI opening at least 100 investigations and charging 20 suspects related to these threats, what implications does this have for the public’s trust in the electoral process?
**Dr. Thompson:** Trust in the electoral process is crucial for a functioning democracy. When individuals see that election officials are under threat, it can lead to skepticism about the legitimacy of the elections. This situation may discourage participation if people feel that the environment is hostile or unsafe.
**Interviewer:** The Washington Post referred to the choice between President Trump and Vice President Harris as “the worst presidential choice in U.S. history.” How do you think this perception impacts voter sentiment and engagement?
**Dr. Thompson:** That statement reflects deep dissatisfaction among voters and could lead to apathy or disengagement. Nonetheless, it might also galvanize some voters who feel passionately about their choice, whether for or against these candidates. Ultimately, polarizing views like this can either stem voter turnout or lead to a fragmented voter base that struggles to coalesce around a candidate.
**Interviewer:** Do you think that such severe measures—like the fence and increased FBI presence—are necessary, or do they contribute to a culture of fear around the elections?
**Dr. Thompson:** While these measures may be necessary to ensure safety, they can also perpetuate a culture of fear. It raises important questions about how we navigate election security versus the perception of electoral integrity. We should strive for a balance where necessary security doesn’t impede voter turnout or create anxiety around the democratic process.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Dr. Thompson. Given the current situation, what do you think readers should take away regarding their role as voters in this context?
**Dr. Thompson:** I encourage readers to engage in the electoral process actively while being aware of the surrounding threats. It’s essential to remain informed and contribute to discussions about election security, voter rights, and the accountability of our elected officials. Only through dialogue can we hope to mitigate fear and restore trust in our democracy.
**Debate Question:** Considering the heightened security measures and the political climate, how do you feel about the implications for voter trust and engagement in the upcoming elections? Are these security measures a necessary evil, or do they risk undermining the democratic process?
