An American Airlines flight bound for Miami was forced to evacuate passengers at San Francisco International Airport due to a fire that broke out in the plane’s cabin before scheduled takeoff.
Flight 2045 was scheduled to depart at 12:15 pm (local time), but minutes before taxiing began, the crew detected the presence of smoke in the cabin, prompting a rapid evacuation action.
According to the airline, smoke was coming from a laptop in a passenger’s luggage. Crew members acted quickly to remove the briefcase and ensure the safe evacuation of all passengers.
“The suitcase was quickly removed by our crew and all customers were evacuated from the aircraft. We appreciate the professionalism of our team and apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers,” American Airlines said in an official statement.
During the evacuation, some passengers used the emergency slides, while others disembarked via the jet bridge. According to the San Francisco Fire Department, three people suffered minor injuries in the incident, although none required hospitalization.
Following the evacuation, passengers were taken to Terminal 3 of the airport. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that it will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the cause and evaluate any measures necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
